Based in the Dutch province of Zeeland, Kingfish Zeeland taps into the pristine marine estuary water of the Eastern Scheldt, a Natura 2000 nature reserve, to deliver a healthy, antibiotic-free premium delicacy: The Dutch Yellowtail (Seriola Lalandi / Pacific Yellowtail / Hiramasa / often used interchangeably with close cousin Hamachi).
Our Dutch Yellowtail is a high grade sashimi, a grilled or smoked classic, and a ‘’Green Choice’ recommended by the Good Fish Foundation as an excellent sustainable alternative. Now available fresh from The Netherlands all year round, with daily deliveries across the EU.

Four Pillars of RAS
RAS is a remarkable technology, when it is well designed and operated, and deployed for the right species at the right market. Here are our four pillars:
Robust and reliable system
Higher than standard exchange rate. Clean seawater source. Proven proprietary design, executed by industry leading engineering firms
Deployed in premium markets
Europe and the US are currently dependent on Japan and Australia to supply the market with Yellowtail. As such, we can supply select markets with the highest grade of more locally grown, sustainable Dutch Yellowtail, available year round.
Yellowtail is known for its delicate taste and is served in the world’s leading restaurants. The species grows to 2,5kg within 12 months and is an ideal fish for RAS technology.
No local wild caught or net-pen competition
Our fully closed facility guarantees that we are not harming local wildlife. In our hatchery we grow our own eggs from the parent fish, supplying us with enough eggs throughout the year.
Why we start with Kingfish Yellowtail
Yellowtail Kingfish is well-suited for RAS
Proven robustness under intensive conditions. No disease or parasitic problems over the last 10 years
High growth rates. Fast and efficient grow-out cycle and productivity in RAS
Resilient to handling / grading. Naturally a schooling fish.
Year-round juvenile supply from own hatchery, cycle closed.
We started building our first plant in Zeeland at the shores of the Oosterschelde in 2016. Since then we have reached these and more of our milestones.
Doubled capacity and production volume
We produced approximately 500 tonnes of Yellowtail Kingfish in 2019.
One of the few commercial hatcheries for Yellowtail Kingfish globally
Yielding millions of fingerlings annually in multiple production cycles.
Vertically integrated from breeding and genetics to sales
Kingfish Zeeland has established one of very few Yellowtail hatcheries of commercial scale globally.
